Two MIT researchers published an analysis concluding that Russia's Burevestnik missile almost certainly uses a direct-cycle, air-breathing nuclear reactor to drive a turbojet.

The direct-cycle design spews radioactive argon, krypton, and carbon in its exhaust, posing severe hazards to anyone handling or living near the system.
