The Army's G-2 and the Joint Staff's J-7 will test Project Wallabee within days, pairing Urban Sky's high-altitude balloon with Applied Intuition's autonomous target-recognition sensor.
Officials said sensors light enough to survive the stratosphere's thin air and extreme temperature swings have only recently matured, after past payloads proved too heavy.
The effort aims to layer ground, air, stratosphere and space sensors into one ecosystem, creating dilemmas for adversaries trying to counter US collection.
Raytheon won a $515 million Navy contract modification to keep producing and integrating the SPY-6 radar family, with Germany included under Foreign Military Sales.
The follow-on covers upgrading Flight IIA destroyers to the SPY-6(V)4 variant; the radar is now aboard two commissioned ships and installed on 11 others.
Raytheon plans to double SPY-6 output by 2028 behind an $800 million facility investment, with deployment expected across more than 50 Navy ships.

The Air Force selected GE Aerospace and Rolls-Royce to advance engine designs for what it calls Medium Thrust Class Autonomous Collaborative Platforms.
GE will complete preliminary design review for its new GE426 under a firm-fixed-price deal; Rolls-Royce is offering its AE engine family, with values undisclosed.
Drones are the initial focus, but the engines could power other unmanned systems and weapons as the service expands its propulsion options for autonomy.

Anduril joined Elbit America's team to provide networking, command-and-control and its Lattice software for the Sigma mobile howitzer in the Army's self-propelled howitzer competition.
Elbit provides the 155mm, 52-caliber automated cannon built in Charleston, South Carolina, while OshKosh Defense supplies the 10x10 wheeled vehicle.
Team Sigma faces Hanwha, Leonardo DRS with KNDS, Rheinmetall and BAE Systems, with the Army aiming to award a contract next month.

The Defense Information Systems Agency will demonstrate its Coalition Information Environment, backbone of the Mission Partner Environment, at the Olympus Fires exercise in the Indo-Pacific this fall.
The Mission Partner Environment creates a single secure workspace for the US and allies to share intelligence, built on data-centric security and zero-trust principles.
The agency targets a minimum viable capability by January 2027 and will scale the architecture from Indo-Pacific Command to European Command.
Fluor Marine Propulsion received a $1.03 billion Navy contract modification to continue naval nuclear propulsion work at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory.
Work will run in Pittsburgh, Schenectady and Idaho Falls under a cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to a previously awarded Naval Sea Systems Command contract.
The funding sustains the propulsion base underpinning Navy submarines and carriers as nuclear shipbuilding demand grows across the fleet.
