🔭 LeoLabs will sell Scout-S space radar directly to allies

Air Force Secretary Troy Meink confirmed the US has on-orbit space control weapons, prompting Beijing to say it opposes turning space into a war zone.

A Space Force spokesperson said space control uses kinetic and non-kinetic means to disrupt, degrade, or destroy adversary capabilities, though no weapon specifics were disclosed.

Moscow also called for full demilitarization of space, as the Department of the Air Force requests $71.1B for the Space Force in FY2027.

Peraso is pitching 60 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) links for drones, pairing wide bandwidth with directional beamforming for low-latency communications with less interference.

The focused line-of-sight links limit signal exposure, and Peraso says its silicon also supports identification friend-or-foe (IFF) within small-drone size, weight, and power limits.

Peraso and partner iNTACT will demo the tech at London's UAV Technology Conference September 21 to 22, positioning it against congested, jammable sub-6 GHz systems.

LeoLabs is moving beyond its services model to sell its mobile Scout-S radar directly to governments, driven by allied demand for sovereign military space capabilities.

The shipping-container-sized S-band radar debuted at the Valiant Shield exercise in June and tracks objects from roughly 180 km to 1,000 km altitude.

CEO Tony Frazier says more than a dozen allied nations are in talks, with at least one weighing multiple units.

BAE Systems unveiled Shadow EW, a family of compact electronic warfare (EW) payloads for small airborne platforms, at AFA's Air, Space and Cyber conference.

Built on commercial microchips and open standards, the line includes the drone-focused Shadow EW 100, covering 70 MHz to 6 GHz, with production in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The design moves away from the bespoke EW suites BAE builds for the F-22 and F-35 toward cheap, software-upgradable hardware for attritable drones and legacy aircraft.
