OpenAI unveiled Daybreak, an initiative that embeds GPT-5.5 and its Codex Security tool directly into software development workflows to help defenders identify vulnerabilities, assess attack paths, and accelerate patching, with major cybersecurity firms, including Cloudflare, already participating as launch partners.

Daybreak operates across three tiers: standard GPT-5.5 for general use; a Trusted Access for Cyber version supporting code review, malware analysis, and patch validation; and GPT-5.5-Cyber for authorized red teaming and penetration testing, available in preview access.

Sam Altman framed Daybreak as a structural shift in cyber defense, arguing that AI is approaching a threshold at which it can continuously secure software by design rather than patching after the fact, with Codex Security generating realistic threat models and assessing vulnerabilities in isolated, controlled environments.

Future Optek has developed augmented reality glasses that project a red-dot aiming cue aligned to a soldier's weapon orientation, tracking head position and weapon angle together to show exactly where the muzzle is pointing, without requiring the shooter to look through a traditional optic or reveal their position with an external laser.

The system uses transparent lenses to maintain an unobstructed field of view, and CEO Matthew Pohl said the design prioritizes fire control and aiming as a simplified interface layer, not a full replacement for existing soldier-worn systems, with the goal of improving situational awareness while reducing cognitive load in combat.

Pohl said the same orientation-tracking architecture could be adapted for remote weapon stations, drones, and ground robots, potentially enabling more capable manned-unmanned teaming without purpose-built hardware on every platform.

The capability will initially deploy on the RF-9820S Compact Team Radio and will be available as a software upgrade across more than 100,000 already fielded units compatible with the existing Wraith system, with an embedded version for the RF-9820S-ER scheduled for later in 2026.
